Cambodia locates at the south of Indo-China Peninsula, bounded by Vietnam in east and southeast, Laos in north and Thailand in west and northwest, close to Gulf of Thailand in southwest.Cambodia is suitable for people to live because there are no natural disasters, such as earthquake or tsunami. In this country there are more than 20 ethnic and the major ethnic is Khmer, accounting for 80% . It also has other minorities such as Cham, PuNong, Laos, Tai and Stieng. The official language of Cambodia is Khmer, English is more commonly used in government departments, and Chinese and Vietnamese are the most commonly used foreign languages among ordinary citizens. The state religion is Buddhism, over 85% of people in Cambodia.
Preah Sihanouk Province is located in the south of Cambodia and recognized as one of the windows that connect to the outside world. It’s about 230 km away from the capital Phnom Penh, with a land area of 2658.9 km2 and having 2 cities (Preah Sihanouk City, Koh Rong City) and 3 districts (Prey Nob District, Stueng Hav District, Kampong Seila District) under its jurisdiction. This province is rich in tourism resources, with total 32 large and small islands and a coastline of more than 170 km. In 2011, the bays and coasts of Preah Sihanouk Province were named members of the World’s Most Beautiful Bay Club.
Preah Sihanouk Province is one of Cambodia’s strongest economic provinces. Prime Minister Hun Sen once positioned this province as the leading role in the economic development of Cambodia. In March 2015, the Royal Government of Cambodia issued the Industrial Development Policy 2015-2025, which was clearly stated that the whole province should be developed into a comprehensive model economic special zone with great development potential. The province has good infrastructure conditions, and the transportation is very convenient. It has an international deep seaport-Sihanoukville, and Sihanouk International Airport. In 2022, the expressway linking Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville was officially opened to traffic, which not only facilitates personnel exchanges, but also connects the economic circles between the two regions.
According to the master plan of demonstration multi-functional economic zone in Preah Sihanouk Province, this province will become Cambodian most dynamic economic hub in the future, as weel as an industrial and logistics center of ASEAN, regional financial and trade center, world-class tourist destination, and an sustainable green demonstration city of ASEAN.
